In this tutorial, we look at how to search for audiobooks as well as how to borrow and then download them to an Apple or Android device using the EBSCO Audiobooks app. Please note, in order to download audiobooks, you must be signed in to a personal My EBSCOhost folder account. If you do not already have an account, you can create one free of charge by clicking the Sign In link in the top toolbar. On the Sign in screen, you also have the option of using your Google credentials to create a new My EBSCOhost folder account and sign in. The Audiobook Collection screen is accessible by clicking the Audiobooks link in the top toolbar. From this screen, you can search for audiobooks by keyword, Browse by Category, view Highlight audiobooks, or view Featured audiobooks. Click the View All links to view a full result list of Highlight or Featured titles. Click the Sample button to hear a preview of the audiobook or hover your pointer over an image to read a brief description. To search the audiobooks collection, enter your keywords in the search box and click Search. From the Result List, you can hear a sample of an audiobook by clicking the Sample button. To download the audiobook to the EBSCO Audiobooks app, click the Borrow link.
If you are not already signed in, you are prompted to sign into your personal My EBSCOhost folder account. If the audiobook you have chosen to download is in use by another patron, and if your library offers Hold capability, you can place a hold on the title and download it when it becomes available. Click the Place Hold button and you are notified via the email address associated with your account when the title is available to you.
Select a borrow period from the drop-down menu and click the Borrow button.Next, you are prompted to download and install the free EBSCO Audiobooks App to your Apple or Android device. The app is available from the iTunes and Google Play stores.
After installing the app on your device, open the app and tap Log In.Next, log in with the My EBSCOhost user ID and password or Google account you used to borrow the audiobook on EBSCOhost. If your library has enabled access with your Library credentials through Single Sign-On, tap the Single Sign-On link to log in.Your borrowed audiobook titles are displayed on the Library screen. Tap the cover image to view more detailed information and download it to your device.
From this screen, you can choose to Download the title or stream the audio while your device is connected to the internet. Note: The audiobook runtime is displayed below the Download and Play buttons.
After your title has downloaded, tap the Play button to listen to the audiobook From the player screen, tap the menu icon at audiobook. Skip to a section by tapping the chapter.
To remove the downloaded file from your device, tap the Download indicator and click OK. The downloaded audio is removed from the app and is no longer stored on your device. However, the title is still available to stream for the duration of the borrow period.When an audiobook is added to the folder, it appears in the audiobooks area. Borrowed audiobooks appear in the Checkouts area. If you have placed a Hold on a title to download it when it becomes available, it appears in the Holds area. When the borrow period of a title ends, it no longer appears in the Checkouts area of your folder.
